Dig into composting and vermicomposting for school sites and districts. Learn about a variety of systems, related lessons, and helpful materials to kick-start composting at your site.

Meet Soil Born Farms’ Orchard Manager and explore fruit tree care, pruning, fertigation, and how to select flavorful, hardy varieties for your site.

Discover the newly built Animal Barn with experiences led by Cordova High students. Experience hands-on activities, floriculture, soil sciences, and more.

Innovation in California’s Capital
ALL DAY
Head out to the farm fields for hands-on demonstrations of environmentally friendly farming technologies and learn how Soil Born Farms, Sacramento City Unified School District, and the Food Literacy Center are collaborating to strengthen the farm to school movement across the Capital Region.
Scheduled Experiences

Grow in the Youth Garden
All-day access to lessons and expert educators. Successful Planting with Students (a hands-on experience) at 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
Visit the youth garden for fun, engaging examples of lessons you can use in school gardens, after-school programs, and classrooms. Lessons will include “one bite” produce snacks, seed gathering and sorting, art in the garden, scavenger hunts, and more.
Seed your success by learning creative ways to plant with students. Receive Soil Born Farms’ lesson, “Backpacks of Energy,” make your own planting guide, and more.

Talk to a Native Plant Expert
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Speak with an expert from the California Native Plant Society about native plants for educational spaces.

Play, Learn, and Sing
12 – 12:45 p.m.
Grab your lunch and join us in the Amphitheater to sing and play along as we teach action-packed songs and skits you can use in a variety of educational settings.

Tour the Farm
12:15 and 3:45 p.m.
Walk, taste, explore, and get inspired as you tour the farm. Learn about regenerative farming practices and Soil Born Farms' hands-on educational experiences and goals.
Register for a farm tour when you arrive at the Summit. Space will be limited.
